Color Consulting Overview
Thank you for taking the time to research me and my business. If you are about to paint your home or other building think about the advantages of using an expert’s services.
My procedure is to meet with ALL principle decision-makers at the job site to discuss colors and arrive at a mutual decision for the color palette. I will take photographs of the building. You will then receive a detailed specification sheet consisting of color formulas, paint brands, and specific placements. Your photos will be clearly marked for placement with a simple paint-by-number system for painters to follow. Painted color swatches will be enclosed to verify the color. Sometimes, I work from architectural elevations. Colored renderings and color boards can be provided upon request.
Many of my designs have received local and national awards. I rarely advertise and rely on referrals and the interest generated from magazine articles, (please see my press page), and my Victorian color designs which are being featured in the Painted Ladies Books by Elizabeth Pomada and Michael Larsen. Local references for historic, residential, and commercial-industrial clients and a brochure are available.

Exterior Direction
For simple designs, I provide color swatches and where to buy the paint-including sheen of paint. “Simple” covers the main body color, major trim color, and minor trim color at a cost of about $400 for private residences. For complex designs; includes apartment complexes, Homeowner/Condominium Associations, business parks, concrete tilt-ups, hospitals, schools, churches, etc., I provide a specifications sheet listing the names of paint colors, brands, color swatches, and photos marked up by number to give the painter clear directions for color placement. The cost of “complex” designs is starts at $1,000 for private residences.
Interiors
I provide interior color design on every kind of interior. (It is nearly impossible to do by mail because of more variables: available light and givens; such as furniture fabrics, carpets, drapes etc.) $500-$1,000 depending on project.
Personal Site Visit
A personal visit yields the best results, because you get to see so many color combinations and interact with me. I show and juxtapose large 8 x 10 inch cards of the actual colors and tell where the colors should be placed for maximum enhancement. A good design considers givens, such as; building next door and in the area, as well as rooftop composition, sash, glass, tile, rock and all other materials effecting color.
This service is usually limited to the San Francisco Bay area for a travel fee of $50 if located outside the city limits of San Francisco. If you request or require a site visit outside of the San Francisco Bay Area arrangements can be made and you will be charged a prorated travel fee.
Architectural Renderings
Architectural Renderings are an undertaking as it is a process to get a rendering that exactly matches the color swatches and are expensive for private residences; I only recommend them if needed.
Starting price is minimum $300 and may cost as much as $1,500.
Enhancements
When applicable, I will recommend an awning, added trim; or graphics appropriate to period or style. Exterior roof, sash, glass, tile or rock colors are occasionally recommended at client request. Assistance with interior carpet, tile, countertops, floor wood or fabrics can be selected if the owner brings choices of these materials to the site to be tied in with the paint color design. This service is an additional cost of $500 – $5,000 depending on the project.
Color By Mail
Over the years I have had many requests for color design by mail. Please click below for more information on the process, prices, and form to fill out. I have produced over 600 color-by-mail jobs in the United States of America and other countries around the world; some of which have been published and won awards. Color by mail starts at $750.00.
Wall Of Money
This service may seem very abstract. Most people cannot imagine what they are getting for their money, and therefore “chicken out,” do not despair, your property will look great, and be more valuable to you. How you ask? It will get a higher appraisal value, sell faster for more money, or rent faster. Not to mention how you and everyone else will feel about how great it looks. These are facts that consistently prove their value over and over again. Your finished property will be captured by tourists, visitors and probably featured on social media as such so much of my work has been.
